Kyoto

Kyoto is home to many historical sites, especially temples.  If you are looking for a taste of old Japan, Kyoto is the place to be.  It's big enough to have modern amenities like a proper subway system, yet small enough to have a special charm.

Top tourist spots include the Kinkakuji (Golden Temple) and Kinkakuji (Silver Temple).  Kinkakuji appears in many famous photos, and is known throughout the world.  Also in the areas around these temples are many tourist shops selling unique, and sometimes handmade goods.  These range from T-Shirts to baked goods.

There are also many things to see besides the temples, and there is bus service from Kyoto station to the places to far in the fringes for the trains to go.
